Answers for Reporters
One of my favorite things to do while watching a televised baseball game (or most any sport) is mock the poor color-commentary guy as he tries to fill in the empty spaces.
Because 80% of what he ends up saying is trite and usable for all occasions.
“This team wants to win this one.”
“He really wanted the ball.”
“If they are going to win, they are going to have to score some runs.”
The same is true with post-game interviews. One might get the impression that the questions and answers are plucked from a list, rather than specific to this one game.
Baseball player Don Carman came to the same conclusion, so rather than stick around and answer inane questions, he merely posted a list of answers on his locker for the reporters to choose from.
